We lose a close one on the road. Too many turnovers, too many sacks allowed. Young o line is getting a baptism by fire. Thankfully, we don't have our franchise quarterback yet, so it's a season to get the young guys manned up.

Missed field goal hurt us in a game where touchdowns were an endangered species.

At KC against a damn tough squad, pretty much no real matchup opportunities on D and a stud QB and OL.

Neither team offered much defensive resistance early but KC came away with 2 TDs while we settled for 2 FGs and also gifted them another FG after an INT in our end. Penalties were a factor here on both sides of the ball for us.

Both Ds settled in for the rest of the game, with KC having a 20-6 lead and mostly holding dominant field position and while we avoided 3-and-outs, penalties (10 for 80) derailed a lot of our drives.

I figured we would need a couple big plays or TOs to keep up with Juan G and that early RZ-derived hole we dug was too much without that. We may have made a game of it with fewer penalties or better 3rd down performance down the stretch but am not convinced it would have made a big difference.

Moral victory for our D holding them to 20 (really 17) points mostly due to bottling up the non-scramble ground game. Would have been nice to get some more pass pressure but we got just 4 pressures on 17 blitzes and Juan G's scrambling hurt us at critical moments throughout.

On O we actually got great production on the ground (we tried some QB runs but they didn't work all that great) but the gamescript and penalties didn't allow us to capitalize on that. Just over 2 YAC per catch and 3 drops hurt our passing production and having lost our 1B target at TE hurt our mid-level passing game particularly. Gonna have to find a way to replace those targets as giving Ferguson 17 targets a game isn't a sustainable or particularly good plan.

A well-played game by all really with no plays over 30 yards allowed. Best of luck the rest of the way KC, quite a squad you got there.

Uh.....Jimmy Marischen is for real!!..& Shaquille Oaks is pretty much uncoverable.....

GG Alaska!

I knew when we didn't grind it out at the end that you would drive down the field and at least kick a FG.....Our short yardage game has let us down big time...3rd and 1 and 4th and 1 early and multiple shots from the goal line later...Odd for a team so good at pounding the rock.....

Next up:

It doesn't get any easier with a solid Hartford team coming to town with revenge on their minds......

Week 2 Honolulu At Atlantic City. A measly crowd showed up for the game, 5,300 people in a stadium that seats 79,400. I think it's time they move to Philly to become the Philadelphia Phantoms, has a nice ring to it. Philly would love a team, 100th percentile of cities that want franchises, and the Atlantic is tied for highest growth trend.

Honolulu wins the toss and elects to receive. The first drive was going methodically down the field until a drop by Stan Wilt. Honolulu scored on the next drive with a 48 yard td to Stan Wilt, HON kicks off and the first play AC scores on a 75 yard pass to Camden Benson on a huge 67 RAC yard catch and run play.

AC fumbled the ball and HON took advantage, Fernando Banks scores on 2 yard td run in the 2nd. AC was going down the field on the next drive until a 3rd down sack by Wayne Maxwell.
On AC's next two drives Jared Graham gets picked off by Sedrick Giedt and Wayne Maxwell setting up Honolulu for two field goals.

20-10 Honolulu at the half

A couple three and outs to start the 3rd quarter, Graham picked off a 3rd time, this time by Griffin Smith. Honolulu scores on the next play to TE Tim Morris for 28 yards.

A terrible punt of only 36 yards set up AC in nice field position AC 47, two plays later they score to TE Ruben Donovan. 27-17. Honolulu produced two long drives for field goals and led 33-20 with 6 minutes left.

Pressed for time Graham is intercepted two more times by Raymond Barry and Orlando Stoffers. Honolulu kicks one last field goal to win 36-20.

Overall Honolulu had a good game. Our defense was able to come up with 6 turnovers!!
5 INTs and Honolulu forced 4 fumbles but recovered one. Jared Graham was under pressure all day with Honolulu sacking him 4 times and 6 hurries. Massive defensive performance against an elite QB.

On offense, QB Cooper Allen had one of his best games since I joined this league. He's off to a great start this season with 0 picks in the first two games after having 32 INTs my first two seasons. 24-31 with 3 drops, great accuracy this game with only 4 missed passes.

Game MVP Cooper Allen. OLB Wayne Maxwell put up a huge performance in his 2nd game in the league. 1.5 sacks and 1 INT, he's quickly becoming a playmaker on defense for Honolulu. I'm also very excited with my other rookies, both SS Orlando Stoffers and CB Raymond Barry got an INT as well.

Final Take:

Turnovers were the main reason Honolulu won 36-20. Atlantic City's defense held Honolulu to 5 field goals but it's almost impossible to win with a -6 turnover differential.

20-6 win in Kansas City against Fargo

80 yards in penalties against Fargo in this game. And Grueneich was better than Terhorst.

The playmakers on my team are very young. A surprising 2-0 start for this team.

GG Fargo and good luck to you also
