Ladies and gentlemen,

the moment you've all been waiting for! Well, at least Fonzie 's been waiting for it, your weekly FFF rankings!

Why was Fonzie so anxious, I hear you ask? Because, after his victory against then #1 Huntington Beach, he just [ic20d490]knew [/ic20d490] he would be the new #1...well, is he?
The answer is yes, the Tucson Toros, the only undefeated team left in the CFL, are the undisputed #1 team!

HB pays dearly for its loss, it drops all the way down to #8 as all the other top teams won. Things are very tight at the top, with 5 teams competing for spots #3 to #7 within 2 points of each other.

In the middle of the pecking order, 3 teams have convincing wins and make spectacular jumps, Las Vegas (+9), Boston and Charleston, both +8 places.

There is a new #1 at the top, but there is also a new face at the bottom. Cleveland, this season's usual cellar dweller, picks up its first win and as a result goes up 2 spots in the rankings.
The Memphis Express had a bye and now have the 'honor' of occupying the last place of the rankings. With an upcoming game in New York (5-2), things could get worse for the Express before they get better...

And now, without any further ado, here are your rankings!

<img src="http://gaillardpatrick.free.fr/FOF_Leag ... 006_07.jpg">

ideal best score: 80 pts
worse possible score: -80 pts

Bah. :x
My only loss is to the #1 ranked team (by a field goal) and tumble to #8? I already beat the #3 and #4 teams.

This is BS!

Just kidding. But I am curious as to why we fell so far. What pulled us down?

If I remember correctly, a loss costs you five points. Those five points are currently the difference between #3 and #8.

But there are teams ranked above me with 2 losses. Maybe recent losses hurt more? Maybe I don't have the strength-of-schedule of some of the others? Although I have played 3 of the top 4 teams so how much harder could it get? Just curious as to what goes into the rankings. It's always fun to see 'em so maybe a little mystery is a good thing.

I don't think it's as scientific as you think. I lost a lot of spots when I almost took out the current #1 and I gained 9 spots when I barely beat a team I should have dominated.

I'm guessing the formula is fairly flat and not too complex...

You're on the right track with recent results counting more. Actually, in this specific case, what caused your downfall is that streaks play a role. A team gets a bonus or malus of 1 point per consecutive win or loss. So in your case, not only did you get -5 points for the loss, you also lost your +5 points bonus from your previous 5 game winning streak. Makes sense ?

What also hurt you is that all other high ranking teams won, and that is actually pretty unusual...

The formula takes into account W, L, W/L streak, relative offensive and defensive ranking (as shown in game on the team summary screen), in-game power rankings, and the average point total of all the opponents a team has played so far.

The formula proper looks something like this
=E2*5-F2*5-(G2-16.5)-(H2-16.5)+J2+(K2-K$36)*0.2+I2

Also, one thing to note is that they are [bab851f7]relative [/bab851f7]rankings, i.e. you score points according to how you compare to the other teams. For example, if your offense is ranked #1 and mine #2, you will only get 1 more point than me. It doesn't make a difference whether you score 1 or 10 points per game more than me...

It's obviously not rocket science, as I only use information that is easily accessible in the game and I do it just for fun, but i'm not sure i'd call it simple though...

You're right, it's not simple, and that was probably not the best way to describe it. What I meant was that it was not the BCS, which is a good thing, but it's not something your PC takes three hours to compute each week.

Your explanation does help make more sense out of the rankings though, thanks.

No problem.

I don't want it to be like the BCS!!! :)

These rankings are basically just another way of sparking discussion in the league, and are not meant in any way to be read like the Bible.

At the end of the season, the #1 team will be the one that won the CFL Bowl, not the one sitting at the top of my rankings... Hmm, here's an idea, maybe we should skip the playoffs all together and have a Championship game between the teams ranked #1 and #2? NOT!

BTW, fff - no hurry on getting week 8's rankings done. Really, take your time. You've been working too hard, anyway. Why not take this week off? ;)

*cough*

Hey Fonzie, who knocked you off last year from your top spot?

Nothing like a Bye before the grudge match.

Indeed. :)

It'll be a fun game. Tucson-Honolulu matchups have become the stuff Monday Night Football dreams are made of.
