Many times a single play makes all the difference between winning and losing. That was the case for the opening week of the 2007 CFL season. Below I count down the top 10 plays of the week:

[b016dd04]10.[/b016dd04] [i016dd04]Memphis Express[/i016dd04] vs. [i016dd04]Shreveport Pride[/i016dd04]

The Express were trailing 13-3 with 3 minutes left to play. They had a 4th and 2 at the Shreveport 14 yard line and decided to go for it instead of kicking the field goal and moving within one score. Pride CB Erwin Koch broke up Joshua Urrutia's pass to give his team possession. Memphis did get the ball back one more time but could not get a first down.

[b016dd04]9.[/b016dd04] [i016dd04]El Paso Rockets[/i016dd04] vs. [i016dd04]Denver Dynomite[/i016dd04]

The Rockets defense got off to a fast start and picked up right where they left off last year. LB Dexter Neves intercepted the pass on Denver's first offensive play of the season, and Dustin Hayes threw a touchdown on the very next play to give the Rockets an early 14-0 lead. Denver never got any closer and lost the game 35-9.

[b016dd04]8.[/b016dd04] [i016dd04]Tampa Bay Torpedoes[/i016dd04] vs. [i016dd04]Baltimore Bombers[/i016dd04]

Early in the 4th quarter, with the Bombers leading 13-7 over the Torpedoes, Baltimore LB Thomas Hunt intercepted a pass by rookie QB Daryl Cassidy and returned it all the way to the Tampa Bay 2 yard line. It took 3 plays, but the Bombers got in the end zone and it was all the points they needed to win 19-14.

[b016dd04]7.[/b016dd04] [i016dd04]Honolulu Blue Pacific[/i016dd04] vs. [i016dd04]Arizona Outlaws[/i016dd04]

It didn't take long for the #1 ranked team to dominate the #32 ranked team. On the first play from scrimmage, Arizona QB Al DeNeff was intercepted by Honolulu CB Nate Azumah. Ronnie Tu followed with three straight completions to give the defending champions a 7-0 lead just 1:19 into the game. They never looked back and easily won 34-12.

[b016dd04]6.[/b016dd04] [i016dd04]Detroit Vampires[/i016dd04] vs. [i016dd04]Chicago Hitmen[/i016dd04]

The Vampires had taken a 20-0 halftime lead, but the Hitmen never gave up and only trailed 20-17 with 3 minutes left. The Detroit offense came back to life and ran out the clock, with the key play being a 16 yard completion between QB Freddie Mathias and rookie WR Bernie Pollard. This play gave Detroit a first down and forced Chicago to burn their time outs. The drive ended with a field goal and a 23-17 Detroit victory.

[b016dd04]5.[/b016dd04] [i016dd04]Anchorage Wolfpack[/i016dd04] vs. [i016dd04]Oregon Ice[/i016dd04]

With 45 seconds left in the first half, Oregon had a nice 28-17 lead and faced a 3rd and 5 at their own 34. The Ice were hoping to break the 30 point barrier in the first half, but the dream came crashing down as Thomas Kuhn's pass was intercepted by LB Hassan Rea and returned for a touchdown that cut the lead to 28-24. The momentum had shifted and Anchorage scored two more unanswered touchdowns in the 3rd quarter and went on to win 45-35.

[b016dd04]4.[/b016dd04] [i016dd04]Huntington Beach Capitalists[/i016dd04] vs. [i016dd04]Sacramento Dragons[/i016dd04]

With 28 seconds on the clock and 16 yards away from the end zone, Capitalist QB Jesus Dennis handed the ball off to RB Austin Moreland who found a hole, turned the corner, and powered his way in for the game winning score. LT Jim Lyons made the key block on the play that gave Huntington Beach a 34-30 victory before a rowdy Monday Night Football crowd.

[b016dd04]3.[/b016dd04] [i016dd04]Seattle Thunderbirds[/i016dd04] vs. [i016dd04]Boise Stampede[/i016dd04]

The Thunderbirds had just taken a 24-20 lead over the Stampede with 1:06 to go in the game. The Boise offense took over at their own 20 yard line and came out with 5 WRs. No one was open, so QB Branden Lin took off, gaining 37 yards on the scramble. Five plays later, with 3 seconds left on the clock, Lin threw the game winning toss to Abe Muncy to give Boise the victory.

[b016dd04]2.[/b016dd04] [i016dd04]Fargo Boxcars[/i016dd04] vs. [i016dd04]Tulsa Talons[/i016dd04]

The Talons were holding onto a 7 point lead in the 3rd quarter when RB Butch Fulton fumbled the ball at midfield. Tulsa got a lucky bounce as the ball came to WR Charles Lindberg who broke free for a touchdown. This broken play was the difference in Tulsa's first victory against Fargo.

[b016dd04]1.[/b016dd04] [i016dd04]Atlantic City Phantoms[/i016dd04] vs. [i016dd04]New York Knights[/i016dd04]

The biggest play of week 1 was made by the Atlantic City Phantoms. The game against the New York Knights went into overtime, and the Knights won the coin toss and chose to receive. On the first play of overtime LB Chris Millsaps intercepted Kim Pace's pass and made it all the way to the New York 3 yard line before he was brought down. A chip shot field goal gave the Phantoms a 17-14 upset victory.

This is some seriously good shit. Is it legal?

And, wait a second . . . I thought Charles Lindberg sucked. How does he get mentioned in the plays of the week?

It was a play made by Butch Fulton's perfectly timed fumble- Lindberg just happened to be the lucky one to pick it up  :P

Rock on!

Yeah, I also thought Lindberg sucked, perfectly timed fumble or not?
