Eastern Conference Championships

Charleston QB Landon Hurst did not practice all week and was listed as doubtful on the injury report. But who needs practice anyway? During pregame warmups Hurst told head coach Rod Caputo that he wanted to play, and play he did. Hurst lead his Charleston Monitors to a 31-17 victory over the Hartford Attack, and the franchise's 2nd CFL Bowl appearance.

This was the 2nd straight year that Hartford lost to Charleston in the playoffs. Last year it was in the Divisional Playoff round, where Hurst passed for 498 yards and 6 TDs. This year it only took 221 yards and 1 TD, but the result was the same.

Hurst got a lot of help from the running game, as RB Jeromy Donahue rushed 22 times for 108 yards and 2 TDs. He also caught a TD pass. On the Hartford side, RB Alan Spearman was held to 45 yards on only 13 carries. Hartford QB James Oberg threw for 288 yards, but was picked off twice and sacked four times.

Western Conference Championships

The Denver Dynomite are returning to defend their CFL title after an impressive 16-6 win over the Boise Stampede. The Denver defense set new playoff records for fewest total yards allowed (170) and fewest passing yards allowed (95). Boise was missing starting QB Branden Lin, and backup Corey Durant started for only the 2nd time since 2004. Durant finished the day 8-24 for 95 yards, 0 TDs, 2 INTs, and was sacked 4 times.

The Denver offense was effective, keeping the ball for over 36 minutes and not turning it over. RB John Lubin only rushed for 49 yards, but QB Marcus Garibaldi threw for 245 yards and connected with 7 different receivers. Garibaldi is now 6-0 in the playoffs and has a chance to win his 2nd CFL Bowl, just days after turning 27.

But the story of the day was the Denver defense. After allowing 112 yards on Boise's first 3 possessions, they only allowed 63 yards for the rest of the day, less than 2.0 yards per play.
