New York, NY (AP) - CFL owners continued a week-long debate over league Hall of Fame induction rules today, with no end apparently in sight.
"I don't know if we'll ever get this thing done," said a clearly frustrated Oregon Ice owner Jack "Grid" Iron. "There's nothing much more to say at this point."
The brain child of Shreveport owner Raven Hawk, the idea of owners voting on Hall of Fame candidates was initially well-received. "I think ownership has a duty to the fans and players to weigh in on Hall of Fame induction," said Hawk. "I'm still confident that we'll get this thing hammered out very soon."
Despite general agreement that owners should have a say in who gets in the Hall, sources indicate there are two sticking points.
The first is whether players should be eligible for induction immediately after they retire. "I don't see why I should have to wait five years to get the glory I deserve," said two-time CFL Bowl MVP Ronnie Tu. "Seriously, I'm the undisputed greatest of all time."
The second issue is whether Hall of Fame voting should be left exclusively to the league computer system, a Commodore 64 with a tape drive. "I don't want some computer I used to play Frogger on in High School deciding who gets into the CFL Hall of Fame," said Talons owner Doug5984. "That just ain't right."
