The first draft a new ownership era can point the way to a bright future or a dreary outlook. Let's review the Ohio Sentries draft class of 2030. In game grade of B+
1.19 DT Eric Smith Wisconsin 34/51
Going into this draft the plan was to establish a 3-4 defensive scheme with this first round pick playing nose tackle. He definitely has the ability to be a solid starter in this league for a long time. After how the draft and free agency turned out, meaning lack of linebacker talent, he may be a starter in a 4-3 defense.
2.18 RB Will Keim Ohio State 27/39
The disappointment of the draft. He will work as a backup running back but the team was looking for it's starter of the future.
3.17 T Vince Simmons Western Illinois 18/48
Long term Simmons will be the starter on the weaker side of a formidable offensive line. His pass blocking ability should keep him on the field for a long time.
4.16 OLB Alex Myrick Wagner 18/44
Another rookie who may start on what may be the youngest linebacking corps in the league. The most experienced linebacker on the roster is only in his third season and Myrick will be competing for the starting SLB spot.
5.19 WR Maurice McKinney Oregon 18/38
McKinney's big play ability will most likely make him the third receiver on this team but he may compete for a regular starting role.
5.32 S Moe Stanton Elizabeth City St. 20/47
Another small school selection for the Sentries that will compete for the starting position as Free Safety and whose man to man skill will help him see time as a nickelback and some time on the field with special teams.
6.18 QB Cornell Schultz University of California-Northridge 14/57
The surprise of the draft. Originally the pick was taken to develop a backup quarterback while Carl Daniels served as the steward of the franchise. Now there are rumors that some in the front office believe Schultz maybe the future franchise quarterback in Ohio.
7.17 OLB Harvey Quick Baylor 26/51
Coaches have been surprised by his workouts so far and felt that they have a good all around linebacker and picked him up cheap late in the seventh round.
