Full Ushi treatment for POs duh...travelling to HON for a rematch, earlier this year we doubled Sword and the other receivers tore us up and guess what we are gonna do it again as we noticed most of the damage was done against Cloud so this time we took that out and are running even more single high. We considered spying some but decided to let Hemingway run. Offensively we will have a limited Johnstone under center playing with a backup QB for a few weeks got us back to our ground based roots and we hope that can continue with the talented yet maligned Johnstone leading the charge.
We runs get us to midfield but then we eat a TFL and sack but Wr Sigrest beats the double team downfield for 20 to move the sticks. A couple TE catch and runs get us inside the 5 and we knock it in for an opening TD drive. Sword beats his own double team (and a hold) downfield for 44 yards. Hemingway gets a couple scrambles and they tie it up. We take two sacks and a hurry moving backwards and I didn't see this HON pass rush coming but this time we contain the scramble on 3rd down to get our own 3andO. We grind a bit and TE Moffit gets another nice catch and run to get us to the orange zone.
We take our 4th sack on the day but Sigrest beats another 3rd and logn double coverage downfield. We can't convert 3rd and 2 and we have yet another kick blocked (I thought we had this solved but now 3 games in a row with a blocked kick AGAIN). A doubled Sword keeps hauling it in and he rips off a 54 yard chunk to set up a pitch and catch TD for HON. We complete acouple passes but mostly its the ground game working and Shapiro breaks away from 30 yards out for the tying TD. HON gets their own 20 yard chunk on teh ground and they move into FG range but our rush finallly starts working and we get 2 sacks to push them into the orange zone. We convert a 3rd and short at the 2M mark but it gets called back on a Hold and we end up booming off a 65 yard punt so HON gets achance sttarting at their 11 but we smother the short passes to a doubled Sword.
HON is winning in the air but we've been better on 3rd and have run 39 plays to their 25. If we can keep Sword from generating chunks we should be able to pull away, but of course the possibility of TOs playing a role in the 2nd half for either team is quite large.
HON battles a bit but NT Streck comes up with back to back pressures up the gut to end things at our 42. We grind our way to FG range helped by a defensive penalty on 3rd down but move backwards with a TFL and penalty so end up booting it into the end zone. A hold puts HON in 3rd and long but again a doubled Sword breaks a tackle on a short pass and rips off 33 yards but its called back on a hold mercifully. We get it back with good field position but can't break a tackle on short stuff or the ground and end up booting it into the end zone once more. Interior pass rush once mroe stifles HON but we can't budge the ball and this 3rd quarter has been a slog.
HON recovers tehir own fumble for the 2nd time, and Sword beats another 3rd down double for the conversioni though QB Hemingway blows his top and they get pushed back on a personal foul call. We tackle well as Hemingway seeks out no nSword targets and get them off the field once more in the orange zone. TE MOffit moves the chains for us twice more and HON gets flagged for a facebmask on future WR1 Rice downfield. We take another sack threatening to take su out of FG range but then hit Wr Givens downfield to set up 1st and goal. Shapiro coughs it up but we fall on top of it, we get 5 tried at punching it in thanks to a HON penalty and are stranded at the 1, but nope they get another penalty and we will get 3 more tries nevermind, soem sort of game error means we jsut get to replay the down and we go incoplete and then kick the 18 yard FG to go up 3 with 5 minute left. Nice return from HON to start at their 49 and they get enough on teh ground to attempt and make the tying 50 yard FG with 3 minutes left. And as has been the case all season we throw our pick in the hurry up and HON take sover at our 27 and race to the endzone in one play. Maybe for the best as nwo we can try to drive to tie it with 2 minutes left, TE/FB Schulz gets aYAC chunk to get us to midifel dwith 94 seconds left, but after 3 incompletes Johnstone coems up 1 yard shy on a 4th down scramble and that's ballgame.
Really nice build you have their SweenDawg, Hemingways ability to navigate the doubles is a nice synergy.
This was a weird season for us I think that's 7 blocked kicks on the season. And the RZ / hurry up TOs in general...my coaches have good bars for that stuff but I wonder if a shakeup is not in order, will have plenty of time to stew on it over the break.
Box score notes , we dominated first downs and won ToP but those chunks from Sword were enough plus our one TO.
That HON rush put up 17 pressures on 45 dropbacks not countign scrambles which is kinda insane it looks liek backup RT Sarmiento put up a 85% and supposed stud pass blocker Johnston am 82% which is god awful.
