Jim's released an update of FOF, taking it to version 5.1 - but I'm thinking we should we hold off on installing it until we're certain that it won't adversely impact MP leagues (or at least adversely impact those leagues in the middle of a season). Any thoughts?

VPI just said he intends to discuss that question over on the IHOF boards. I suggest we all keep an eye on their conversation, as well as developing our own.

This from Jim over @ the IHOF forum:

As far as individuals in the league using the update, here are the ramifications:

1) You will be able to export rosters that meet the new positional requirements, but not the old ones, without any warning. Not a big deal if you're paying attention.

2) Player salary requests will be different, sometimes quite a bit different, under the new request system. So renegotiations would be different and difficult.

Otherwise, there's no reason not to go ahead, no file incompatibility. If you're done renegotiating, there's potentially zero impact.

If there are bugs, it's in the salary request stuff. Tried to go through that thoroughly, but there's always something.

As for the league, all that matters is what version VPI is using. Personally, I'd wait until that point just before he clicks "end season". I'm using the new version right now, as I have for about a month now. I'm going to go back tonight and do my one renegotation, but from then on, it's 5.1.

That sounds like an "all clear" to upgrade, as long as the individual is paying attention and understands the risks...

Since this is the only league that I'm in, I'll wait for the go ahead from Taco before I upgrade.

How soon before we use it as a league standard?

After reading the discussion on the IHOF board I think it would be best to wait to upgrade until the after the CFL Bowl this season. I will upgrade my version before I hit the "End of Season" command.

If any of you would like to upgrade before that it sounds like that would be fine. Just be aware that it might make it more difficult to make renegotiations this season.

So, unless anyone has any objections, the plan is that I will upgrade at the end of our current season, while everyone else has the choice of upgrading now or waiting until I do it.

My other two leagues are already upgrading, so I have already done so. Luckily, I've already done renegotiations for this year so it hopefully shouldn't be a problem as long as I keep a close eye on my roster...

It's possible to make a copy of your FOF2004 folder and upgrade that one to use with other leagues, and keep using the old one for the CFL... I just did that, since the HFL has already upgraded.

In case anybody's missed it, apparently, Jim has fixed the FA bug and the patch is about to be released, pending on Viatech being open for business .

Posted by Solecismic over at FOFC :

[quote8d7407d]Okay. Probably tomorrow, then. It's done, but I have to wait for ViaTech to update the executable. Edit. I don't know their vacation schedule. Might have to wait a few days, might not.

Here's the list:

1) Refix the attendance fix.

2) Add formation data to expanded game logs.

3) Fix coach of the year selection in MP. Now it goes to Ann Arbor every year.

4) Less going for 2pc before end-game.

5) Lower the injury penalty for prone players.

6) Fix improper over-cap signal when real cause for rejection was finicky player, who, for the reason of careless programming, then decided every offer sucked. And I had streamlined hundreds of lines of code with that one, too. I'm amazed it wasn't crashing all over the place, which I would have caught before release.

7) Add one to secondary positions of rookies higher than MLB in base player file (this will get Deangelo Hall and his friends into the right places, though my guess is that your list isn't quite the same due to some minor real-life changes for long-time veterans).

Change penalty for being over the cap to a loss of a first-round pick and spotting the opposing team a field goal at the beginning of each game.

Just kidding about 8.[/quote8d7407d]

3ric, do you need to license both versions ?

No, the license already installed apparently works for both folders.

OK thanks, I'll try this then.
