See if we can get a good performance in the POs against a well coached and built HON squad with 7 former Sodbusters getting snaps for the opposing side. On paper seems like a good fit for a small ball approach on O but am a bit concerned about how well they defend the edge in the running game and their pretty vanilla coverage means we may be relying on our bars to generate chunks. On D this one is all about England, we decided to spy a good bit but think we can keep them in front of us throughout.

All looks good on our opening series as we get a couple receptions and solid running for the TD. A big KR for HON and run heavy approach from HON evens things up. We keep grinding but dry up and settle for 3.

HON has little trouble and is highly efficient before WR Keith breaks free and scores from 20something on a YAC play. We get stuffed on 3rd and short and pick up our second personal foul on D with England picking up 2 3rds on the ground en route to an 11 point advantage. 3andO from our O as completions are hard to come by and HON gets a nice PR but a big sack on 2nd helps us get them off the field. We go pass happy and get enough to get to a 3rd and 1 but then throw it short of the sticks and S Austin makes the tackle on Crabtree and we barely sneak the FG in. England scrambles for another conversion and then hits TE Phillips down the seam twice in a row with England scrambling in for another TD on 3rd once more.

Well sheesh, guess we shoulda put the Spy on 3rd down. They are 5/6 on 3rd and even the one incomplete was a scramble as well. We are at just 50% completion as well which is not good enough. 15 points is a lot in this game if our D can't get some quick stops. Penalties have been a hidden factor as well as we have 50 yards and 3 1sts gifted against us to their 0 flags.

HON moves it some but we get our 3rd down hurry finally. We get 3 YAC plays from our WRs to get to the RZ and finish the drive well to make it an 8 point game. England goes for another 3rd down scramble but pulls up short only for our PR to be fumbled and lost. Our D pushes them back though with a TFL and sack to avoid going down 2 scores once more.

We go back to Crabtree facing a 3rd and short and this time he pulls away from the coverage to get us to the RZ and we pound our way to the endzone and hit Crabtree on the conversion to tie things up early in the 4th.

England finds Keith downfield but tries it again and wily vet LB Andersen steps in front of the pass and we put together a nice series of plays to get 6 and a 7 point lead. Another nice return for HON and they keep chugging along crossing 150 yards rushing with the receivers getting YAC chunks on our side of the field to tie things up just outside of 4 minutes.

We go into our hyper aggressive hurry up much to my chagrin and convert a 3rd and 10 but the 3rd personal foul against us means we are still in our side of the field and face a 4th and 10 at their 36 shortly thereafter and maligned K Ponce takes advantage of the HON weather to nail the kick. But there is still more than 2 minutes left...we get them to a 4th and 4 inside of 2 minutes and fittingly England's scramble comes up just 1 yard shy. We tack on 3 more after HON uses all their TOs and bottles up our clockgrinding attempt with 1 minute left. But England can't quit scrambling and the clock runs out pretty quickly.

Tale of two halves for HON on O as they go 1/6 on 3rd in the 2nd half. GG Bob, always impressed by what you can do in HON.

Box score notes:
Both teams went 4/0 in the RZ (this is playoff football for sure)
HON scored 3 striaght TDs to start while we scored on our last 5 possessions in the comeback
Our pass pro was very good at under 10% PR for HON

GG Raven Hawk,

Scott was throwing darts today and deservedly received game MVP with Stanton catching everything thrown to him but luckily did not break anything big. Woodford overcame two picks and engineered a late drive leaving the Pride with 27 seconds left.
Fernandes' kick return turned the tide, just after Zhang's 6 yard run for the lead at the beginning of the fourth. Glad the TE did not catch another game winner.

Never easy playing against Shreveport,
Dean

GG, Dean.

Odd that the two lowest scored-on defenses ended up with a 31-38 score. That's much above the 17.5 (BKN) and 18.2 (SHR) that each team allowed on average this year.

We could have put Brooklyn away early, but couldn't convert 2 INT's in BKN territory for more than a pair of field goals. You stopped up CJ Russell pretty good.

Fernandes and Warren both came alive at the end of the game - two vet wide receivers trying to pull it out for their team.

See you next year in week 3 or 4. Lol. Good luck the rest of the way. You win the prize of having to play Durham and Ortiz next week. Go get 'em!

There were a lot of points scored this week:
55-23 for Durham hosting KC
41-35 for Fargo on the road vs. Honolulu
47-39 for Las Vegas also at El Paso.
-Definitely still be mad about the 3-picks, but sometimes the FOF gods curse you especially against the Rounders.

Hope for the best and expect the worst as it is a rainy day in Durham.

Good luck Steel,
Dean

Yes, it is. It was a 53 yard FG, not 63.

gg landshark

We both gave each other a lot of opportunities, but we hit the RNG jackpot on all 3 of the 4Q picks. Some of the early turnovers were a wash, but maximizing on opportunities was the difference.

I spent considerably more time GP'ing on the defensive side and I think I got that dialed in but I was hoping for a better day on offense. We just don't meet often enough to get a good feel for the best approach offensively.

Fargo on the other hand, I see more often than my own mother. We have some options next week.

Congrats on a good season and good luck in the draft!
