Forum feedback neede

I am cracking the hood of the phpBB code we have and seeing what cool features we can come up with. Is there anything that you would like to see the forum do?

If you have an idea, just post below. I will evaluate it and see if it is possible. Then I will go to work.

I am going to keep editing this post to remind me what I need to do.

-Change color scheme
-Add Links to team names
-Add some BBCode functionallity
[s]-Fix time out bug[/s]

maybe get some betting thing going, or a predictions type of thing for the games. I have both on my site, the predictions one looks like this http://www.ifl.cc/forum/fsports.php
or maybe a box on the main forum page with the latest news, trades, or whatever.

I am going to get some sort of betting tool up. I do not think this has anything to do with phpBB though. I see VPI lurking, maybe he can confirm or deny that.

yes it does. you have to install a cash mod to the phpbb database first, and then install whatever betting program you're using, there are a few out there, I believe.

if you mean board style, I may be having some issues with it, though I don't know if thats whats causing it. i get this error:

whenever i go in a thread that has around 9-10 posts or longer. if that's caused by the template I would like something different, or if anyone knows what thats all about it would help me out.

Perhaps it has something to do with line 90 in template.php? I'm on dial-up and have never been able to open up a full post here before, especially with the graphic overload that has been going on here lately. It looks like there is some kind of code that only allows a thread to load for 30 seconds, otherwise it times out. A hasty measure to ease the load on a server.

Yes and No. I downloaded some of those mods and took a look, but they were either too cumbersome, required too much manual maintenance or really didn't fit exactly what I wanted...so I ended up re-writing most of the code.

GE, your best bet is to just start off with something simple like adding QOTM. Create a table, create an interface with which to insert records, and then play around with displaying 'select...order by rand()" results by editing the php and tpl files.

I don't know if this is anything that you can fix, GE, but after I click on the "go to first unread post" icon next to a thread it won't let me use it a second (or third, etc) time, saying something like it can't find new posts.

Not a huge deal, just a minor annoyance...

Here is the function taht begins on line 90 of template.php

function set_filenames($filename_array)
{
if (!is_array($filename_array))
{

}

reset($filename_array);
while(list($handle, $filename) = each($filename_array))

$this->files[$handle] = $this->make_filename($filename);
}

return true;
}

This function is used just to set file names I am assuming. It has nothing to do with timeouts from the best that I can tell.

max_execution_time = nn;

where nn is a number of seconds.

I'd be in favor of changing the links to where you need to actually click on them to take you to a page rather then just clicking on the general area

I also see that the some HTML does not work on the board. Neither the strike tag or s tag work properly.

I'd like it very much if this board allowed the use of html tables... also the "code" bbtag isn't working like it should. Makes it difficult to post data extracted from the game.
