This would've been good to know a while ago - as in immediately after the draft. Why did Bug take so long to make this pick? Or was this posted somewhere else and I completely missed it?

I've already submitted an export with a humongous number of transactions, and I believe one of them involves Culbertson. Trying to reconstruct everything I did in that export will be a time-consuming pain.

I just found out today.

Someone asked the reigning league champ a couple days ago, but he never responded.

So, I PM'd him today and got the answer.

With any luck, this situation will never occur again.

Why not just do something like... if Culbertson signs with anyone besides Bug, he gets a future 7th as compensation.

It seems a lot of teams already had their export in, especially with talk of the sim being moved up.

I don't care so much about getting Culbertson as much as I don't want to have to redo my export. I don't recall if I'd offered him much in the way of a bonus (I don't think I did), so if I happen to sign him I'd be happy to either trade him directly to MrBug or release him right away. Would that be cool with everyone?

In any event, I'd recommend that future compensatory picks like this be chosen [i7729b1d]immediately[/i7729b1d] after the conclusion of the draft. Doing it any later provides the owner in question with an advantage insofar as they can adjust their compensatory pick to accomodate any busts they experience post-draft. (edit: I don't mean to suggest that this was what MrBug was doing, and nor do I think a 7th rounder is likely to make up for the bust of a higher round pick. But in any event the process we used strikes me as inconvenient and mildly unjust.)

On a final note, I think this situation nicely points out one of the weaknesses of FOF2k4's multiplayer setup - the inability to reload your most recent export and make modifications is very limiting.

As far as the game's limitations, I've already learned to make notes on every offer I plan on making. Not only does it help me make decisions by looking at a rough draft, it has already been worth the time in the few resubmissions I've done between last season and this one.

I have a similar issue. I dont know if I tried to sign him or not but I submitted my export before leaving town. I have no ability to resubmit so we will just have to clean up afterwards if I did make an offer to him.

I would say the simple solution for the future is that anyone with a comp. pick has the same time limit for their pick as anyone else. That would avoid any of this kind of situation I would think...
