I'm pretty happy with the guys I've signed so far. No big names, but I kept 2 of my better defensive players in Kevin Deck and Boyd Mauro, and added a couple solid bodies at DE in John Moody (who I don't even remember being on the Phantoms before) and Lenny Shepherd. Looks like I need to fill some of the offensive holes thru the draft.

Glad to see Jeffries come back to the Vampires, his high loyalty made him accept a cheaper offer. He'll once again be a great backup guard.

I'm sad to see Cassidy go, he's been a constant on my team for the last 4 seasons but he was just asking for way more money than I could afford. As a result, the Vampires will be switching to a 3-4 defense next season...

Man, it's been a pretty quiet offseason for me so far...Granted, I already have close to a full team and not much cap space to work with, but still...

Fuck you then, Noble. You want less money to go to Fargo, that's your call.

Bitch.

Yeah, I got him.... Cassidy NT 6'5 318 Big Bad and Ugly... My Dline is complete now and much better than last year.

LDE Casey Cha 6'3 270
NT Richard Cassidy 6'5 318
RDE Casey Bousquet 6'3 260

Oh yeah, I picked up James Jones to complete my secondary. This offseason is going pretty good now that I have Cap room and I just got back into the draft.

I am in the same boat pretty much. After my 2 trades for WRs, I have little cap space which will go towards rookies. But I have all of my starters and sitting at 42 players.

Since its only a 2 year deal with such a huge bonus, the only team I see this hurting really is Honolulu, next year the could renegotiate but the 8.72 in bonus isnt going anywhere. Its not a offer I would have made because I always try to keep my team out of cap trouble, but I think its a fair offer.

I'm of this thinking also. It's not a great deal for Honolulu, but I suppose Bug is trying to make another run at the title.

It is for 2 years, and 28 million. The first year is 1,560,000 in current salary with 8,720,000 in bonus money. The 2nd year is 9 mil in current salary, with the 8.72 in bonus money. Also Beech is still listed as "out" for 12 more weeks.

i see nothing wrong with that. offer all the bonus money you want.

It's the 400ish% increase in base salary that disturbs me...

Nothing major, the more I think about it it does not bother me THAT much (and I didn't realize he was listed as out) but I still think the contract logic was taken advantage of a little bit...

I don't think I have a problem with it. If it was a 4+ year deal with normal base salary until the final year, that would be an obvious exploitation of the contract logic.

As it is, Bug's only going to get one full year out of Beech (assuming Beech doesn't reinjure), and he's going to pay Beech $17 million in that year to perform (or re-sign him to a long term contract with a likely second enormous bonus).

One thing Bug could do is IR Beech this year on the hope he'll retain his ratings but sign a [i60f6432]very[/i60f6432] scaled back contract next year. However, in my SP experience in FOF, this tactic has rarely worked with WRs (& QBs & LTs & CBs), though it's outrageously successful with RBs.

I needed to gamble on a big time WR and I had 17 million dollars in cap space for this year. I dont think there is much doubt that Im going to make the playoffs so if I can get him for the last couple weeks and theplayoffs, it was a good risk. If he comes back and reinjures himself, Im only going to take a hit next year then.

So there is no rule in this league about contract increases from year to year?

I believe that it would be covered in this section of our Constitution:

When I looked at the Beech deal, my first thought was 'that's shady'. But after thinking about it, I don't have any problem with it. If you were Beech, wouldn't you sign that contract? You get $17 million this year and probably get a new contract next year.

Did he turn an offer that was better?

I have thought that maybe we should consider adopting a rule similar to the one the enfl has:

[quote1158674]4. Contracts.

(i) When making any contract offer, you may not double or exceed double a player's salary from one year to the next, except from the first year of the contract to the second. You must release the player if you violate this rule. Note: bonus money is not included as part of the salary

(ii)Free Agent Bonus Requirement. Every free agent contract offer with a total value exceeding 10% of the current salary cap must include at least 20% in bonus money. Additionally, any two-year free agent contract offer that more than doubles the salary from the first to the second year must include at least 20% in bonus money [/quote1158674]

Under these rules the contract in question would still be legal, but they are good guidelines regardless.
