As is customary, Seattle GM Aylmar sat down with the media earlier this week to discuss the upcoming season. The GM has managed to turn the franchise around since assuming command three years ago, but has missed the playoffs in back-to-back winning campaigns.

[b58c243c]Could you talk a little bit about the new contract for Cole Faison?[/b58c243c]
[i58c243c]We had been in talks with his agent all summer. It was a matter of all of us sitting down at the table and hammering out numbers we all agreed were fair for a receiver of Cole's caliber. I think we managed to work out a deal that is beneficial to both parties. The organization is very pleased with our situation at wide receiver. We really think that Cole would have been impossible to replace in free agency and that he would have gotten a bigger contract if we'd actually let him test the market. I say again, we are very happy with the deal.[/i58c243c]

[b58c243c]Does Chris Farr still have a chance to start for this team even though he signed so late?[/b58c243c]
[i58c243c]That's a coaching decision, but I will say this. He didn't help himself very much by missing camp. We like the kid and we want him to play and contribute this season. Now that he's signed, he'll be working pretty heavily with the coaches in the next couple of preseason games. I'm not sure when or if he'll be able to start and contribute, but he'll be getting some opportunities.[/i58c243c]

[b58c243c]Was Randolph Downing's extension simply a move to free up cap space in order to make the trade for Eaddy?[/b58c243c]
[i58c243c]I wouldn't characterize it like that. We like having Randy around. He's got good hands and runs excellent routes. He and Dever have a great relationship. It really wasn't a question of whether or not we'd extend him. It was just a question of when.[/i58c243c]

[b58c243c]Do you think your secondary is good enough to get you to the playoffs?[/b58c243c]
[i58c243c]Well that's the million-dollar question, isn't it? We've been working for the past couple of seasons to try and bolster it. We've taken a defensive back in the first round three out the last four seasons. We just made the trade for Augustus Eaddy, a guy that we really thought looked good on film. We're hoping he'll get up to speed quickly and start making an impact on our defense. I think it's recognized that we haven't played as well as we'd like in that phase of the game. I think we're starting to have the talent, now it's a matter of getting them all on the same page.[/i58c243c]

[b58c243c]Anything new on Ellis Price?[/b58c243c]
[i58c243c]I'd rather not get into that right now. It is what it is. We're not going to dwell on it. He's hurt and has been placed on injured reserve. As of this moment, he is going to try and return next season. We'll see what the doctors say. It's out of my hands.[/i58c243c]

[b58c243c]With your cap situation next season, if you fail to make the playoffs this year, will that mean huge changes for this team in the off-season?[/b58c243c]
[i58c243c]I don't know if I can answer that right now. I think our cap situation is manageable over the next couple of seasons. We've been trying to manage our larger extensions to give us a little wiggle room each year. We maybe have one more contract in us. Eaddy is playing out the last year of the deal he signed with the Bulldogs, and we've opened talks with him about an extension. I think we have a nice core of players, and we'd like to keep them together for a while. I don't think we'll be in a situation like we were three years ago when we purged some of our talent and went with a very young roster. I think we're going to be just fine.[/i58c243c]
