<img src="http://www.thecfl.net/images/pressman/beavers.JPG" width="242" height="304" alt="Joseph Beavers" title="Joseph Beavers" align="right">The Week 1 Game of the Week featured [b1cac920]Joseph "Butter Fingers" Beavers[/b1cac920], who fumbled two times in the Charleston/Baltimore game. He made up for it by catching a clutch 21 yard TD pass with 47 seconds remaining in regulation and then followed it up with a 2 point conversion to cut the Bombers lead to 3 points. Undrafted rookie LB [b1cac920]Ricardo Stewart[/b1cac920] recovered the onside kick, and Charleston got a field goal to send the game into overtime. Baltimore RB [b1cac920]Jonathan Sill[/b1cac920] lost a fumble in overtime, and Charleston completed the dramatic comeback and won the game 31-28. Not all of the week 1 games were so close, as there were several blowouts. The Detroit Vampires shut out the Albany Crows 30-0. The Fargo Boxcars, led by offensive player of the week [b1cac920]Dwayne Bridges[/b1cac920] scored 43 points against the El Paso Rockets and won by 20. Bridges had 420 passing yards with 3 TDs and 0 INTs. The New Orleans Raging Horde dominated the Memphis Express 41-7. And the preseason favorite Hartford Attack defeated division rival New York by a score of 34-7. The Ring of Fire division featured a pair of Week 1 upsets, with Las Vegas defeating Honolulu and Arizona topping Tucson. In the Honolulu/Vegas game, [b1cac920]Ronnie Tu[/b1cac920] sat on the bench while [b1cac920]Monroe Smart[/b1cac920] got the start at quarterback for the Blue Pacific. Meanwhile, [b1cac920]Lenny "Jackpot" Olsen[/b1cac920] threw 2 TDs including a 62 yard strike to [b1cac920]Corwin Poole[/b1cac920]. Tucson committed 3 turnovers in their loss while Arizona racked up 418 yards of total offense in the process of building up a 30-6 lead. Stay tuned for week 2 of the 2008 CFL season, scheduled for Friday morning. |

Just so the record is straight, Vegas was a 2-point favorite in the contest. Corwin Poole's jersey is still on backorder... |

[quote15de06b="TurfToe"]Just so the record is straight, Vegas was a 2-point favorite in the contest. Perhaps because the bookies were aware of the unrest in Honolulu's depth charts? |

I don't remember which game it was but someone had the edge in every category and was a getting a lot of lumber...Week 1 is always strange in this game. |
