The ball popped loose and Denver CB Otis Ames recovered it. Two minutes later the score was tied 21-21 and the game went into the final quarter.
Early in the 4th both teams exchanged field goals to make it 24-24. On the next drive Charleston WR Daniel Black broke free for a 62 yard TD reception, but kicker Percy Alvarado missed the extra point! The score was now 30-24 Charleston.
It only took Denver 2:02 to take their first lead of the game, as QB Marcus Garibaldi threw his 4th TD pass of the day. Denver now held a 31-30 lead with 2:38 left.
Charleston took the final drive to the Denver 37 yard line with 28 seconds remaining on the clock. Up until this point, the Monitors running back stats were as follows: Their starter, Jeromy Donahue, was 28-100 on the day with 3 TDs. Their backup, Deion Appleberry, was 11-14 with 1 lost fumble. But the handoff went to Appleberry, and he burst through the line and broke through the secondary, and was finally brought down at the Denver 1 yard line with 18 seconds left. After a rushing attempt was stopped, Alvarado came onto the field to avenge his earlier missed extra point. He didn't miss this time, and his 18 yard field goal as time expired gave the Charleston Monitors a 33-31 victory, and the 2008 CFL Championship.
