Sacramento, CA (AP) - Just minutes after the Sacramento Dragons announced the signing of former Tulsa Talons running back Butch Fulton to a $6 million one-year deal, the former CFL MVP's relationship with his new club was thrown into turmoil. "They told me they absolutely would not trade or franchise me at the end of the year," said Fulton, explaining that his intent was to have one amazing season at full health so he could hit free agency again next year and get a deal better than the one offered by San Antonio ($43 million for five years with a $17 million bonus). "It wasn't written into the contract, but the management gave me their word." Sacramento's general manager denied making any such promise. "Our complete agreement was reduced to writing," said Dragons GM Joe. "There is nothing in the contract stating we would not franchise or trade him." Joe went so far as to state that such a condition "never came up in our negotiations," something Fulton disputes. "He knows what he said. This isn't over by any means." |

You forgot the part about not wanting to play in the cesspool known as San Antonio. |

Hell of a deal. I pondered making him an offer in pre-FA, but he was a little too pricey for an 8-year vet so I didn't bother. Corey Dillon written all over it. Could be a holy terror, or could mess up an ankle and put a huge clog of goo in your cap situation. It's a great 6 million gamble for a season, but not a multiyear for what he was asking, IMHO. |
