| Post subject: | Week 1 Key Game Roun |
It's week 1, and that means it is time for some key divisional matchups. Here are some of the more interesting games from this week: In what was clearly the most important, interesting, and entertaining game this week, featuring the league's most talented teams, [bff975bb]Tucson[/bff975bb] (1-0) survived a scrappy effort by [bff975bb]Las Vegas[/bff975bb] (0-1) by the score of 33-27. Vegas scored 17 4th quarter points to force OT, but a crucial turnover at the Vegas 42 gave Tucson the opportunity to put this one away. Vegas deserves some extra credit for nearly pulling this one off without Lenny Olsen, who suffered a torn ACL and will miss the season. [bff975bb]Honolulu[/bff975bb] (1-0) got off to a great start by dumping [bff975bb]Arizona[/bff975bb] (0-1) 31-19. Kranz had a solid first game as a Bloodthirsty Beagle, but Honolulu may have been the beneficiaries of good timing. Outlaws QB Freddie Matthias missed the game due to an injury, and he is a difference maker... [bff975bb]Oregon's[/bff975bb] (1-0) QB Myron "Angie" Dickenson went berzerk in a 48-17 romp over [bff975bb]Anchorage[/bff975bb] (0-1). "Angie" was 14 for 23 passing, for [bff975bb][iff975bb]436 yards and four TDs.[/iff975bb][/bff975bb] That's not a typo - he averaged [iff975bb]18.9 yards per attempt.[/iff975bb] Wow. Perennial league doormat [bff975bb]Chicago[/bff975bb] (0-1) gave [bff975bb]Detroit[/bff975bb] (1-0) a serious scare in taking a 31-20 lead into the 4th quarter at Detroit. QB Johnnie Titone pulled the Vampires collective butts out of the fire by scoring 14 4th quarter points, including the game-winning field goal with 1:06 left. This kind of effort forces one to wonder: is Chicago starting to turn the corner? League powerhouses [bff975bb]Durham[/bff975bb] (0-1) and [bff975bb]Charleston[/bff975bb] (1-0) hooked up in this tightly contested playoff preview. Durham took a comfortable 24-6 lead into the 4th quarter, but the allegedly nonexistent 4th-quarter comeback subroutine kicked in for the Monitors and allowed them to rally for exactly 18 points (2 TDs with 2-pt conversions and a safety) to send the game into OT. Of course, Charleston won with a TD. [bff975bb]El Paso[/bff975bb] (0-1) gave defending champions [bff975bb]Denver[/bff975bb] (1-0) a run for their money, but came up on the short end of a 20-17 score. Denver had to rely on a punt return for a TD and 2 FGs to keep them in the game. But it was worth the lengthy wait for an offensive TD - a Garibaldi pass to Peace with :52 to go for the win. [bff975bb]Fargo[/bff975bb] (0-1) got a 380 yard passing day from Brett Hedges, but it wasn't enough to counter [bff975bb]Tulsa's[/bff975bb] (1-0) 270 rushing yards. 220 of those yards came from Butch Fult...er, I mean rookie Marvin Raffo, who also scored two TDs. Not a bad debut. Tulsa 24, Fargo 23. [bff975bb]Boston[/bff975bb] (1-0) pulled off a stunner vs. [bff975bb]Hartford[/bff975bb] (0-1), winning 29-26. Hartford had a 26-14 lead in the 4th quarter, when Dwayne Bridges remembered he was too good of a quarterback to take this shit. He finished 26 for 35 for 371 yds, 4 TDs and 1 INT. That's all for now. I'll be trying to do this weekly roundup more consistently this season - last season's attempt to do weekly summaries of key games got blown out of the water by real-life time pressures. I'm hopeful I'll have a bit more time this go 'round. |

[quotef3ae3bb="Fonzie"] I'm hopeful I'll have a bit more time this go 'round.[/quotef3ae3bb] You know you won't. But I'm hopeful as well, as this was excellent! Kudos to you and may the curse of the Shreveport Right Shoes be upon your Toro House. Bastards. I missed it by that much... In related news, Skip Barrett was found strung up on the flagpole outside of the Rounders practice facility with a football superglued to each hand. I had absolutely nothing to do with it. Really. I was, uh, somewhere else. |
