Billy Joe Floyd was born in the small town of Waconia, Minnesota. His father Bobby Joe Floyd was a stand out QB at Waconia HS winning the state championship his senior year. Billy Joe grew up hoping to follow in his footsteps. After winning back to back state championships Billy Joe was offered scholorships to schools all around the country but he settled on Oregon State and went there with the hopes of one day going to the CFL. Billy Joe took over the starting role half way through his sophmore season and never looked back. He set a few school records and led the Beavers to a few bowl wins. Upon entering the CFL draft Billy Joe was hopefull he would be a first day selection, but he knew he didn't have a great combine and could slip down. With the first pick on Day 2 of the draft the Tulsa Talons came calling. Billy Joe knew the Talon's had drafted QB Donnie Lowe very early the previous year and that he would be a backup for a few seasons.

His first season in the CFL Billy Joe held the ball on kicks, and that was about all. In his second season Donnie Lowe went down with an injury and Billy Joe was able to step in and start 2 games. In his 2 starts he played solid, and was able to have a good game against division rival Fargo and get the first win of his career. The next 3 years Donnie Lowe was able to stay healthy and Billy Joe continued his role as backup QB. Entering his 6th season Billy Joe knew his role as a backup and was content on being a backup for the remainder of his contract before hitting the FA market in hopes of finding a starting job. However, in week 12 Donnie Lowe went down for the remained of the season and Billy Joe knew this was his shot to prove himself. In his 5 starts he threw for 1,119 yards 6 TDs, and only 1 INT for a QB rating of 88. Billy Joe proved he is the type of QB that can play mistake free football. Now entering his 7th season, and the final year on his contract he is hoping someone is willing to trade for him, and give him a shot. If no one comes calling this year- keep your eyes open next offseason as Billy Joe will be looking to prove his worth and land a starting job somewhere in the CFL.
