November 2, 2006 Santa Cruz, California In a startling turn of events Santa Cruz Privateers General Manager Fastcat announced tonight that ownership has demanded that the third youngest team in the CFL get younger. An unscheduled press conference held at Privateer Center, GM Fastcat had this to say, ''Tonight, we regrettably announce the release of RG Robert Rains and FS David Visser. This decision was a hard one to make, and we wish both players the best of luck the rest of their careers. Both players had asked to be traded to a contending team, but the reality is no offer was ever made for either player. The Privateer family hopes both players are now able to complete their wishes in Free Agency. This is a sad day in Privateer Land.'' Robert Rains, a 13-year veteran, was a Baltimore Bomber draft pick in 2003 he arrived in Santa Cruz in 2007. From 2003-2006 he played in 45 games, starting only 29 times. Once joining the Privateers he flourished starting in 78 games over 5 seasons. He garnered 120 of his 146 career Run Blocks in Santa Cruz, his Career Blocking Percentage stands at 32.3%. Robert Rains ranks 4th all-time for the Privateers in Key Run Blocks. David Visser, a 15-year veteran, was a 2003 draft pick of the Privateers, he started and played in 131 of the possible 144 games in his 9 seasons with the Privateers. He has 29 interceptions and 82 Pass Defenses to go along with a 20.1 Pass Defense Percentage. David is tied with David Pitman for the most Interceptions in Privateer history, he is 3rd in Tackles with 564, and 2nd in Passes Defended. |
