To be added to the League Rules Section:

G. Free Agency

Any free agent asking for 3 or more years MUST be offered a contract for at least 3 years for the duration of the first (pre-draft) 12 stage free agency period. In the second (post-draft) free agency period, any contract may be offered.

Any GM violating this rule will have the player immediately cut (thus penalizing with bonus payment) and will also lose a draft pick at the Commissioner's discretion.

i would assume this is effective next offseason and not this one...just thought it a good idea to have that clarified now. dont know that it makes much difference considering the players out there but you never know.

I'm not sure it matters at this point all the good players asking for big deals are gone, or at least will be by the time it gets enough votes- but i thought it would be effective immediately, we'll have to check with Taco on that one.

This won't be effective until next offseason. I don't think it's fair to change the rules in the middle of free agency. As has been mentioned, it probably wouldn't change anything right now anyway.

I don't like this rule, I feel it removes too much flexibity.

Yes.

He was asking for a 2 year deal, so the rule wouldn't apply to him.

I think it only takes a majority to pass, so with 18 votes we've already got that. Of course, as TLK has pointed out, we don't know for certain that all of the votes are legit.
