| Post subject: | Free Agency Rule Reminder |
From the constitution: - FREE AGENCY Any free agent asking for 3 or more years MUST be offered a contract for at least 3 years for the duration of the first (pre-draft) 12 stage free agency period. In the second (post-draft) free agency period, any contract may be offered. Any GM violating this rule will have the player immediately cut (thus penalizing with bonus payment) and will also lose a draft pick at the Commissioner's discretion. -ROSTERS 1. A team may never have more than 70 players under contract at any one time. |

There's a shitload of illegal contracts in the last FA stage, from AI teams (a problem we did not anticipate back then) but also human GMs: Omaha, Hartford, Tucson, New Orleans, Seattle, Denver, Brookly, Vegas... What's the plan? |

What's the plan?[/quote590bca3] I made an illegal offer? I thought I was very careful. Which offer is illegal? Based on precedence from last season, the penalty would start with any signed player being released and the team would forfeit at least a 7th round pick. Obviously, I don't get much of a vote if I'm the one in trouble. |

fff, I think you might have misread the rule. The rule simply says that if a player is asking for 3 or more years, then they must be offered a deal of at least 3 years. I just double checked all of the offers in the current sim and none of them are illegal. For reference, here is the list of players that need offers of at least 3 years: Scott, D.J. 65 LT 2018 UFA 5 $124,440,000 6 years Dehaven, Toby 73 NT 2017 UFA 6 $35,270,000 6 years Hinds, Reggie 30 SS 2019 UFA 5 $21,410,000 5 years Farrell, Jerome 33 RB 2018 UFA 5 $80,820,000 5 years Gaines, Spencer 34 FS 2018 UFA 5 $22,090,000 5 years Harden, Marco 60 RT 2018 UFA 5 $25,270,000 5 years Kellett, Brian 95 RDT 2017 UFA 6 $64,550,000 5 years Banner, Derrick 11 QB 2013 UFA 10 $69,350,000 4 years Escamilla, J.C. 38 LCB 2021 UFA 7 $21,880,000 4 years Baron, R.J. 58 SLB 2018 UFA 5 $35,550,000 4 years Sorota, Amos 65 RG 2018 UFA 5 $25,300,000 4 years Gragg, J.B. 0 LG ---- UFA 9 $6,840,000 3 years Devine, Kent 0 LT ---- UFA 7 $8,420,000 3 years Gillespie, Lincoln 3 K 2017 UFA 9 $8,540,000 3 years Novack, Brady 8 QB 2021 UFA 7 $10,430,000 3 years Greene, Leo 12 QB 2021 UFA 7 $8,980,000 3 years Butler, K.C. 13 QB 2017 UFA 6 $10,170,000 3 years Henson, Hugh 18 QB 2021 UFA 6 $9,630,000 3 years Quinn, Leroy 56 C 2012 UFA 11 $21,820,000 3 years Harden, Leonard 56 C 2021 UFA 9 $7,270,000 3 years Kubus, Neal 64 LG 2019 UFA 8 $17,390,000 3 years Hammond, Nolan 66 LT 2019 UFA 7 $8,620,000 3 years Fredrickson, Bernard 67 RG 2021 UFA 8 $7,940,000 3 years Mills, Brady 67 LG 2015 UFA 8 $8,280,000 3 years Montgomery, Jason 68 LG 2020 UFA 8 $8,080,000 3 years Brock, Kenneth 69 RT 2021 UFA 8 $8,080,000 3 years Donovan, J.B. 70 RT 2018 UFA 5 $7,870,000 3 years Jarvis, Bryant 71 RG 2021 UFA 9 $6,840,000 3 years Kirk, Jimmie 71 LG 2021 UFA 8 $7,940,000 3 years Mongeon, Lawrence 74 LT 2020 UFA 10 $7,960,000 3 years Harvey, Gene 79 C 2014 UFA 9 $7,420,000 3 years Talley, Ellis 80 TE 2014 UFA 9 $8,410,000 3 years Newton, Rod 92 SLB 2016 UFA 7 $13,260,000 3 years Landon, Levon 97 SLB 2021 UFA 9 $12,650,000 3 years Kaplan, Jorge 97 SILB 2018 UFA 5 $22,420,000 3 years Clark, Brock 98 WLB 2014 UFA 9 $12,830,000 3 years |

I got confused and mixed up our rule with the one in WOOF where every free agent must be offered at least a 3 year contract... It did strike me as odd that so many people would suddenly forget about the rule, including Masked who had just bumped it... |

That's a dumb rule. Why would someone offer a 3 year deal to a 12-year vet that is only asking for a 1-year contract? That doesn't even begin to make sense... |
