Tampa Bay, FL (AP): The Tampa Bay Torpedoes hosted the Charleston Monitors in an Atlantic Division showdown to kickoff the 2018 season and slipped by with a 21-20 victory in a torrential downpour. Monitors QB [player]Donnie Lowe[/player] was named MVP as he completed 36 of 46 passes (78.3%) for 255 yards with 2 TD's and an INT. Offensively, the Torpedoes were able to move the ball on the ground, but their run game was shutdown. The Torpedoes turned the ball over twice. The Torpedoes struggled to convert on 3rd down. The Torpedoes scored 7 points on 1 trip to the Red Zone. The Monitors dominated the time of possession and controlled the ball for almost 3/4 of the game. The Torpedoes need to do a better job at getting their opponents off the field or it's going to be a long year for their defense. Defensively, the Torpedoes shutdown the Monitors run game, but struggled against the pass. The Torpedoes struggled to stop the Monitors on 3rd down. The Torpedoes allowed 17 points on 3 trips to the Red Zone. This was a solid win to start the season. The Torpedoes (1-0) travel to play the Huntingdon Beach Capitalists (0-1) next week.
