Your Beloved Toros didn't play this week, so I'll comment on a couple of the games: Blaine McCormick set a Long Beach single-game record with 423 passing yards, but it wasn't enough as they lost to Santa Cruz 37-34. Denver was upset by Huntington Beach 41-34. Denver had rallied to tie in the 4th quarter, with TJ Boyer leading them on a beautiful 15 play, 98 yard TD drive to tie the game at 34 with 4:22 to play. But then HB struck right back with Bert Foster hitting Charlie Peal on a 17 yd TD pass to retake the lead. Boyer then had another chance, but threw his only pick of the game with 1:12 left which effectively ended it. That Derrick Banner fellow might just work out in Durham. He threw for 383 yards and 3 TDs today, leading Durham to 45 points and 544 yards in total offense in a drubbing of Tampa Bay. Several fun division races are shaping up. New Orleans leads San Antonio by just one game in the Deep South, Detroit and Albany are tied in the Great Lakes division, and Hartford leads Brooklyn by one game in the Yankee division. In the Western Conference the Ring of Ice has a three-way logjam with Seattle, Oregon and Boise all at 5-4. Hutington Beach also leads Santa Cruz by just one game in the San Andreas division. The strecth run promises to be entertaining. Fun stuff! |
