Exclusive for the CFL, here are the FFF rankings!

Yesterday during the live chat, Taco asked us about the frequency and level of details we wanted for his rankings. Because of Chris being the commish now, he obviously does not have the time to do his rankings very often. Our conclusion was that he should continue to do his rankings, in as much detail as possible and post them once in a while, 2 or 3 time per season would be nice (preseason, mid-season, end of season maybe)

In the meantime, someone also said that it would be nice to have weekly rankings.

This is where I come in. I have borrowed ideas left and right (mainly from Sport Illustrated over at IHOF to be honest!) and came up with a formula.

Points are awarded in different categories, and then teams are ranked according to their total points.

I wanted my ratings to be set up so that the best team has a maximum of points, a zero for an average team has zero points, and worst team in the league has a maximum number of negative points.

Points are awarded like this :
+10 for a win
-10 for a loss

relative points for offensive and defensive rankings (points scored and allowed per game): the team ranked 1st in offense or defense gets +16.5 points, the team ranked #32nd gets -16.5 point.
(eg: this week, Durham is ranked 6th in points scored and 3rd in points allowed, so they get 10.5 and 13.5 points respectively, for a total of 24)

+.2 point per FOF power rating compared to the league average - eg: this week, Hartford leads the ingame FOF Power ratings with 103, the average is 74 so they get (103-74)*.2=5.8 points

Points for streaks, winning and losing : +1 point for each consecutive win and -1 for each consecutive loss.

I'd like to include strength of schedule in there somehow, but as of right now, it's not! Maybe if somebody comes up with it, I'll include it...(Sov, that's a hint!!!)

Now I realize those rankings are not perfect. For example, I chose points scored per game to reflect the offensive might of a team, and that is not really true, (especially since special teams and defensive scores are included in that stat). But the point was to have something to chew on and for us to discuss.

Comments and feeback are more than welcome.

No, they were indeed favorites... The season is far from over yet, but it 's hard to see how they could turn things around, especially in this crazy division of theirs...
How the mighty have fallen!
