GG Santa Cruz It was a defensive struggle as we were down 0-3 at halftime. We were able to break through for a touchdown in the 3rd quarter to take a 7-3 lead. We added a field goal to give us a 10-3 lead and then we forced a turnover. We iced the game with an explosive 30+ yard touchdown run from Norman Bay. Our gameplan was to come out and pound the the ball on the ground. It took a while for us to get going, but we finally wore down their defense towards the end of the game. Our defense was outstanding, we got to the QB 5 separate times and were really able to clamp down on run defense as the game went on. This team is beginning to turn it around. That is our 3rd win on the road already this season, and WE HAVE A POSITIVE TURNOVER MARGIN! That is huge since we were far and away the worst team last year in turnover differential. 2nd year QB Irv Clements isn't lighting the league on fire by any means, but he is taking care of the football and has been an effective game manager thus far. |

Hosting LA trying to avenge our playoff loss from last season. Our O started out hot like usual and capitalized with 2 TDs while LA went to the run early and had no success. Our O petered out in the 2nd quarter and LA moved the ball along with getting some godo PRs getting some middle depth completions but could only come away with 3 points after a missed FG and orange zone punt. We were happy to be up 14-3 at the half. Things flipped back our way in the 3rd quarter with LA having 4 3-and-outs while we added 10 points to go up 21. LA quickly got that down to 14 early in the 4th but never got it going again. Very solid running performance (200+ yards, and 6+ per carry before garbage time) from us and we even broke a big one for the first time in a while. The passing game was pretty terrible going 14/32 with 6 drops (yikes!) and 6 hurries hurting our cause. We won the game on D though, switching from our standard 1 high and blitz look to 2 high coverages and frequently had a spy in. LA got their YAC when they completed a pass but on 44 dropbacks they had only 22 completions with nothing too deep as we forced 4 sacks, 6 hurries while they also had 5 drops. Nice to get a win against a stud QB this season and stay healthy. We have 2 in-division trap games up next so just have to take it a week at a time. |

Another nice win, GG Boise, brings us to 6-1 at the bye and feeling pretty good. So far injuries haven't bitten us and we seem to be clicking. Let's hope both of these things are true for the whole 2nd half-plus we have to finish. |
