If you release that player today, my understanding is that you get hit with his current year bonus this season, and the rest of his contract year's bonuses are accelerated to next season. In your case, you'd take a hit of 1M this season, and 1M next season. At least that's how I always understood how bonuses were handled when a player left your team... I may be wrong though...

hehe, yeah for that one example, it wouldn't make a bidg difference, but let's say you have a player with 3 or 4 years left on his contract. That could hurt you just a bit this year, then boom to the jugular next season
