He made up for it by catching a clutch 21 yard TD pass with 47 seconds remaining in regulation and then followed it up with a 2 point conversion to cut the Bombers lead to 3 points. Undrafted rookie LB [b1cac920]Ricardo Stewart[/b1cac920] recovered the onside kick, and Charleston got a field goal to send the game into overtime. Baltimore RB [b1cac920]Jonathan Sill[/b1cac920] lost a fumble in overtime, and Charleston completed the dramatic comeback and won the game 31-28.
Not all of the week 1 games were so close, as there were several blowouts. The Detroit Vampires shut out the Albany Crows 30-0. The Fargo Boxcars, led by offensive player of the week [b1cac920]Dwayne Bridges[/b1cac920] scored 43 points against the El Paso Rockets and won by 20. Bridges had 420 passing yards with 3 TDs and 0 INTs. The New Orleans Raging Horde dominated the Memphis Express 41-7. And the preseason favorite Hartford Attack defeated division rival New York by a score of 34-7.
The Ring of Fire division featured a pair of Week 1 upsets, with Las Vegas defeating Honolulu and Arizona topping Tucson. In the Honolulu/Vegas game, [b1cac920]Ronnie Tu[/b1cac920] sat on the bench while [b1cac920]Monroe Smart[/b1cac920] got the start at quarterback for the Blue Pacific. Meanwhile, [b1cac920]Lenny "Jackpot" Olsen[/b1cac920] threw 2 TDs including a 62 yard strike to [b1cac920]Corwin Poole[/b1cac920]. Tucson committed 3 turnovers in their loss while Arizona racked up 418 yards of total offense in the process of building up a 30-6 lead.
