The preseason hype was heavier than it has been in years here in Las Vegas. The Rounders faithful have cited the Charles Dever signing as the sign that their time had come. However, things started to look uncertain when defensive standout [player]Harvey Wilkins[/player] (4th year Safety) struggled to recover from a knee injury suffered in 2017 and the defensive captain, [player]Bryant Lochtefeld[/player] (MLB), was injured in preseason action. While Dever still offered hopes of an offense that could score 27 points a game the concern lied squarely on the shoulders of the defense, who had shown signs of improvement in 2017.

Matt Rosacks-Yule caught up with Charles Dever after the opening game...

[bff39bec]Matt[/bff39bec]: How did it feel to play your first game not wearing a Seattle jersey?

[bff39bec]Dever[/bff39bec]: It wasn't as strange as I thought it would be. It was a little strange when I suited up for my first preseason action but I got over it fast. I'm really digging this team.

[bff39bec]Matt[/bff39bec]: Well, we know it's not the GM that gives a player the warm and fuzzy feeling, what do you attribute your comfort to?

[bff39bec]Dever[/bff39bec]: This team has a great mix of youth and veterans and the offensive weapons are as good as any I have had before. [player]Corwin Poole[/player] is a consumate professional and works hard at running his routes and catching balls. Terrell and Vandersommen have loads of talent and it's great to get to help them explore their potential. These guys can be stars in this league.

[bff39bec]Matt[/bff39bec]: Where's the love for the offensive line?

[bff39bec]Dever[/bff39bec]: Don't worry, the big guys up front know exactly where they stand in my book. Even though they are an experienced group they remind me often of how they remember watching me play in the CFL when they were in high school or college.

[bff39bec]Matt[/bff39bec]: So the transition has been fairly easy for you?

[bff39bec]Dever[/bff39bec]: I wouldn't say the transition was easy but I am thankful for Seattle's new ownership. They did the right thing in moving me early - it was right for the club and it was right for me.

[bff39bec]Matt[/bff39bec]: Are you saying the previous ownership wouldn't have done it right?

[bff39bec]Dever[/bff39bec]: I would rather not comment on the past because we always live in the now. Everyone can come to their own conclusions about history, as it has been thoroughly documented both accurately and inaccurately. Hunter Walker is going to do things in this league that others have not done before. He's a great kid and I enjoyed being his teammate. That was an unusual situation there for awhile and I'm glad we both have a team to lead in 2018.

[bff39bec]Matt[/bff39bec]: What are your thoughts on tonight's performance?

[bff39bec]Dever[/bff39bec]: Without trying to sound like a cliche, a win is a win. However, you always want to do well and improve each time you step onto the field. We left some points out there tonight but we will eliminate some of those mistakes as we move forward. People don't give Arizona enough credit, their defense is quite good, especially up front. Our line did a good job of buying me some time. I've been asked if I would throw the same ball again on that interception and I would have to say yes. It wasn't a bad throw or a mistake by my receiver, it was just a great play by the secondary. We're all professionals in the CFL, if we weren't the best we wouldn't be here. Sometimes we make plays and sometimes they make plays. Arizona did a good job of making sure we didn't make too many more plays than they did. We'll get better and try to seperate ourselves from our opponent more next time.

[bff39bec]Matt[/bff39bec]: One more question Charles, where would you rather be playing this season: Seattle or Las Vegas?

[bff39bec]Dever[/bff39bec]: I never thought I'd say this but I finally understand how transgendered people feel...my inner Rounder has finally been able to come out. I was a Rounder stuck in a Thunderbird's uniform for far too long.

[bff39bec]Matt[/bff39bec]: Thanks for your time Charles and good luck on your 2018 campaign. We now have two transgendered individuals in the Ring of Fire. Tucson's GM, Fonzie, and now Vegas' QB, Charles Dever. One trades a penis for a pussy and the other a change in ownership for an ownership we all think should probably change. Stay tuned for more coverage of your 2018 Las Vegas Rounders.
