Anyone have any imput on how the offseason should be run this time around? Tomorrow I will try to find the schedule we used last season to use as a guideline. With the playoffs underway it would be nice to get something set up.

Anyone know anything off hand they did not like about the offseason last year they would like changed? Or just any ideas on how to run this one would be nice.

#1 Last offseason we didn't have a schedule; it was just made up export by export. This made it hard for me and some other owners to plan things. We need to have a complete offseason schedule posted before the offseason begins.

#2 We should try to have all 32 teams filled with human owners before the offseason starts.

#3 During the draft when you make a selection you need to email the owner who drafts next to let them know it is their pick. Hopefully this will speed up the first few rounds before we do the live draft. Having the draft stall for long periods of time was frustrating.

#4 MC needs to write another free agency preview. Last year's was great!

ok I jus threw this together really quickly to have something to look at and make changes too. I do not know if we want to go at this pase or anything. I have not talked to GE or MC about this either so this is no where near a final schedule. Anyone see something that really needs to be changed here?

Day 4 - Staff Hiring 2
Day 5 - Staff Hiring 3

My initial impression is 5 weeks is too long for the offseason.

I think the free days between FA stages 1-2 should be cut. These stages can be pretty quick. Most of the work goes into the first stage. The next few stages is mainly tweaking offers and waiting for the players to actually sign.

I don't think there should be any gaps between FA days...

Ok- something more like that? That only gives us 6 days to get the draft done, assuming we officially start on "Day 12"

I think we should leave the 2nd part to be decided later, depending on how smoothly / quickly the draft and all runs...

Good initiative, Doug. Your proposed schedule seems fair to me. I agree that, if the draft is run during the free agency periods, we should probably allow for some flexibility.

As a new owner (this year) in the league, I'm still not totally clear how the draft is going to be run on the boards in an expedient manner.

Are there allotted times where you have to make your pick? What happens if your time falls at some obscene hour?

I like the revised version. I would propose taking days 4 through 7 one at a time back to back and then do 8-9 and then as posted. On post draft do days 1-5 one at a time straight through. This makes the FA period just a few days longer but we will be drafting anyway during main FA and it will make our FA period a little better. The double ups seem to always lead to bad signing results and we shouldnt have that start until the bulk of the signings are over with in the first 7 days. Better to take an extra couple days but get it right.

Take it from OOTP leagues, people get bored during FA

I like this idea- With the draft going on at the same time, we dont want FA to go too fast that we are stuck trying to finish up the draft before we can move on.

So your saying something more like this...

Day 1 - CFL Bowl
DAy 2
Day 3 - End of Season / Staff Hiring 1
Day 4 - Staff Hiring 2
Day 5 - Staff Hiring 3
Day 6
Day 7 - Franchise Tags / Stadium Stuff
Day 8
Day 9 - FA 1
Day 10 - FA 2
Day 11 - FA 3
Day 12 - FA 4
Day 13 - FA 5
DAy 14 - FA 6
Day 15 - FA 7
Day 16 - FA 8-9
Day 17 - FA 10-12
Day 18 - FA 13-15
Day 19 - FA 16-18
Day 20 - FA 19-20

I think we could probably also group days 6-7 together, to move it just a little faster.

That looks great. We can do the PDFA in 5 consecutive days taking us to about 25 days. If we want to condense a bit we could wipe out the couple of days off that are scheduled after the CFL Bowl and the hiring/franschising stages to get us down a bit.

GE, can you post an offseason schedule now that the 2004 season is over? This league has lost a lot of momentum and we need to get it back.

GE, are we going to go with Doug's schedule? Can you also give us an idea about when we will start the new season?

While I'm nagging you :D, here are other things I'd like to see:

1. The HTML exported files need to be updated.

2. Can you end the 2004 season and post a new file?

3. Can you change Mitchell Vazquez's name to Motormouth Vazquez? If this is possible.

Thank you!

Does someone want to do this? I'll give them an FTP account to update the files.

Sure, I'll do it.

EDIT: Thanks, Primal. The HTML has been updated.

We will go with Doug's schedule once we establish the roll call.

Oops, it looks like I lost the team logos when I updated the HTML exported files. I guess I didn't have the image files in the correct place on my system.

Does anyone have these images so I can fix it? Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Nevermind, I found the files and fixed it.

Which one? There were a few being batted around. I take it the last one he posted?

How long do you plan on waiting before starting the offseason schedule? Can we just set a date now? What I don't want to happen is that we are left in the dark for several days and then all of a sudden it is announced that our first export is due tonight and several owners miss it.

Also, what are we waiting for concerning the roll call? Are you planning on finding owners for all teams before beginning the offseason? More insight into your plans would be much appreciated!

I plan on setting the AI for players that do not answer the roll call. I have already contacted several people about openings in the league. An off-season schedule will be posted soon.
