Again, apologies for the mix-up and need for a resim. Not sure how I managed to mess up the midweek save on my machine, but clearly I did.

Crap, I go from 2-0 to 1-1. Amazing how the same gameplans can give 2 radically different results.

The new Week 2 results really confuse me. Are we the team from the first sim or the second?

Some drawbacks to the sim were that old man TD Terrell loses one of his 100-yard games that will pave his way to the HOF and CB Stan Casillas crept to 86/86 in the first sim but crept to only 85/85 in this one.

The good news is that Hutchins had a great game going over 100 yards on the ground with 4 TD's and one TD through the air. We also now know Casillas has some more room to creep. In other good news it looks as though the other ROF teams reversed their results making the division much closer than it was 1/2 week ago.

gg RH, it looks like the dice rolls came up a little different this time and only some of the same trends continued. P Victor Lynn had a much better (and somewhat impressive) day although that's not always good news I guess.

Indeed it is. Early in my MP life I spent some time testing gameplans in SP, running the same gameplan 20+ times against the same opponent to see how it would work. The averages resulting from those tests provided some useful information, but the variance from sim-to-sim was amazing.

I guess that's my problem. I've been testing various gameplans for 20+ seasons in MP and haven't come to a single conclusion over what works. Maybe I should try SP some day...

Tell me about it! I finally had a big win in this damn game against the Champs! Now it's all flushed down the shitter. The first game I won 21-14 racking up 194 yards rushing. Then I was sitting at a record of 1-1. I was even looking forward to reading about it in Fonzie's highlights of Week 2 (which I love reading)!

I knew it was too good to be true!

In the real, fantasy world that we all live in. I got my asses handed to me 38-7. I had the same game plan and a whole whopping 59 yards rushing. Couldn't even bring myself to finish watching it. Now I am at 0-2 and this is after the year that I missed the playoffs by a tiebreaker. How disappointing!

Sometimes I wonder why I spend all this time on this game, when it is this random.

Me too. Never played single player. This is the first time I played FOF. JJ Smitty got me into the game. Not for sure if I hate him for it or love him for it.

Right now after losing the re-sim, definitely hate him.

Same situation here. Ran for about 170 the first sim and about 50 the second sim. That's some radically different "dice rolls".

Ditto.

And that make perfect sense to me. Two games is no way to judge whether a particular 'system' or method is good or not. The right game plan can fall flat on its face and look stupid one, two, three times in a row, but then win the next nine. You can't panic too much in FOF.

It's poker. It really is. I think of a season as a poker tournament. A 'smart' play can still get a bad beat and lose... it's pretty random if you look at one or two games. Duh. It's kind of supposed to be. :) Over time, the right systems, playing the pot odds properly for example, pay off. The whole idea of pot odds is a big picture, larger sample strategy, anyway, and not so much a game-by-game strategy.

SP lets you see the big picture stuff a little easier. It also, if you call some plays, get a good sense of endurance, and the percentages of what kinds of routes certain receivers will run. Things like that. You don't have to do it to be a good GM, but I think it helps a little.

I haven't done it in years and only did because I was laid up and couldn't walk for six months.

I just realized Hutchins didn't get the nod for offensive player of the week. Really? Scoring all 5 of your team's TD's isn't enough? I'll take 5 TD's from a RB over 3 from a QB any day.

Remember TT, this is FOF where the QB is the only thing that matters in an offense.

True, although one could argue that gameplanning trumps quarterbacking. Robbins is better than I give him credit for but he's not as good as Fonzie is able to make hime look. I'd be curious to see just how great Goodwin would be if we resimmed his career under AI control, making him more like he would have been under a "normal" GM's command.

Fonzie, can you take an old MP file and sim it out for 20 years without input? I'd be curious to see what Goodwin did without the ole Fonzie gameplan.

Hmmm...that's an interesting thought. Although just putting it on auto for 20 years might not tell us too much, as there would be substantial changes in drafted players over that time period that would probably contaminate the results. It might be more enlightening to pick a year when Goodwin was at the "height of his powers" and sim it on autopilot 20 times to generate an average performance for all players that year. I don't know that I'll have time for it in the near future, but I'll try to do something like that.
